Here Be Sexist Vampires by Suzanne Wright

Book Title: Here Be Sexist Vampires(Deep In your Veins #1)
Author: Suzanne Wright

Publication Date: January 13,2012

Publisher: Self-Published

Summary: Sam Parker is a vampire with a gift so strong and substantial that she is invited to partake in a test for a place in the Grand High Master Vampire’s private army. She finds that not only has the army never included a woman, but it has never included a Sventé vampire; a breed that is regarded by the super strong Pagori breed and the hypnotically beautiful Keja breed to be too tame and human-like. Most refuse to take her seriously, especially a Pagori commander named Jared who she craves in spite of herself.

The Grand High Master, however, sees her potential and offers her the position of Jared’s co-commander to help train the newest squad in time for the impending attack on his home. Sam has to demonstrate to Jared and the squad of chauvinists why it is incredibly foolish to underestimate a willful, temperamental, borderline-homicidal Sventé female.
Warning: This novel contains an iron-willed female vampire with an energy whip, a sexist male vampire who is determined to have her, explicit vampy sex, and a romance story with real bite.

Review:  All bookworms go through a reading-slump at one or the other point, where book after book just keeps on disappointing you and then at one point you find a shining jewel after which our faith in the universe is restored. This was one such jewel for me.I came across this book by accident and went in without much expectations. At the end I was laughing so much!!
This was a fantastic book with a completely different and original concept about vampires.Basically there are 3 breeds of vampires when turned- the Pagori who are super strong and fast, the Keja with their hypnotic beauty and allure, the Svente who have admirable control of their bloodlust but without the strength or beauty of the other breeds.
The protagonist Sam is a Svente vampire, who has been working as an assassin for a few years for her Sire Victor without a choice. All vampires in this world have gifts and Sam is a Feeder(which is a very rare gift especially among Svente) which allows her to take in energy from her surroundings constantly and she can even temporarily use someone else's energy and gifts.
One day,she is invited to take part in the tests to join the Grand Master's Legion.Even though she is underestimated and belittled she still manages to do well, but as the commander Jared is a sexist he refuses to select her.Much to his chagrin, the Grand Master Antonio sees her potential and makes her Jared's co-commander.Now, she has to work with a controlling, chauvinistic Pagori, and try to teach the bunch of recruits who wont respect her before one of the enemies' armies attack The Hollow.

This has turned out to be one of my favorite books and it had me laughing from the beginning to the end.It has the perfect combination of romance, comedy, suspense and sexiness.Sam is such a lovable female MC with her snarkiness, homicidal tendencies, blunt speech, intelligence and her energy whip!

I looked down at a coughing Jared and arched a brow. “Now who’s the pretty girl?”

“Well let me tell you something. I’ve done things in my time that would make the curly hairs in your pants go straight. Female or not, I reckon I’ve got bigger balls than you have.”

We also have the other protagonist Jared who is a Pagori and also the Heir.He starts off with an inflated ego, chauvinistic tendencies and an i-cannot-feel-love attitude but as he interacts with Sam and they begin to see each other clearly his opinions slowly change.I loved the attraction between them and the slow progression of their relationship. He is so cute and protective of Sam.

“God, I loved this woman: this very crazy, borderline-homicidal – on second thought, scrap the borderline – woman.”

We also have Fletcher-Sam's PA and new BFF who is a hoot. All the boys in the squad- Max(slap-head),David,Salem,etc are very well written and its wonderful to see how they go from dissing Sam to respecting her and calling her Coach. The relationships between the characters are very well written and the progression of the story is fluid. The action scenes are also very good. Also Sam's British slang was an added bonus which I loved. My only pet peeve was that the author used way too much of the word "giggle" which i couldn't help but notice.Once or twice is fine. But Jared and Evan giggling instead of chuckling, snorting or laughing was weird!
I look forward to reading more of Sam and Jared's story.
So if you want a book which makes you laugh, swoon and think at the same time look no further.Go buy it!

About the Author:

I don't remember a time when I wasn't writing something, whether it was stories, poems, or even songs - though I can't carry a tune. I only have one rule when I'm writing a book which is that it has to have a happy ending. Other than that, pretty much anything goes. I write stories that I would enjoy reading and then I just hope that others will enjoy them too.
I was born and raised in England where I live with my husband (a person who doesn't judge me for hearing voices in my head - how often do you come across people like that?), and my two demanding children.
