REVIEW
This was a funny, crazy and sexy book that I absolutely enjoyed reading!Upon reading the blurb I had thought that this book would probably be a love triangle of sorts, but it went in a different direction from my expectations and that was quite surprising!
Sarah has just lost her job as a paralegal and has been crashing at her best friend Pete's place. She's desperate for a new job and would like to finally stay at an apartment on her own again.Somehow she manages to land a receptionist job at a New Age spa with weird, hippy bosses- Fern and Ziggy- who seem nice in the beginning. She also secretly loves to read the Missed Connections section and hopes that one day she might find one about her.Her wish comes true and soon she and her online friend begin to develop a relationship, that she hasn't ever experienced before.
But, at the same time there is also Jack-Pete's twin brother, on whom she has had a crush on for a long time.Though, she is attracted to him, she doesn't really have faith in a relationship with him due to her preconceived notions about him and past experiences that have burned her.
Jack has also liked Sarah since the beginning. But she has never given him the time of the day.She doesn't even know him as well as she thinks she does. What can a guy do when the girl you've lusted after for so long thinks that you are a manwhore?
Add Blake-Sarah's sexy, flirtatious new co-worker to the mix and you end up with more confusion!
So, what will Sarah do?Will she finally stand up to her Fern,Ziggy and Phyllis who are determined to make her feel inferior and drive her crazy? Will she be able to choose between her Missed Connection and Jack or will she have to?Read the book to find out!
Honestly, Sarah's character was a little annoying in the beginning.I wasn't really fond of the way she treated Jack and how she labelled him even though she actually didn't know him thoroughly. But, she grew on me and I could understand why she found it so difficult to trust him.Pete and Jack were great characters!Coming to Fern,Ziggy and Phyllis- the author has created such weird, annoying and unbelievable people, but truthfully humans like them do exist.I liked how Sarah handled them in the end.No job in this world is worth the loss of your sanity or identity!
The relationship between Sarah and her online friend was well done.It isn't really much of a mystery and I think everyone but Sarah knew who he was halfway through the book.Towards the end, the angst was a little high and Sarah started rambling in her monologues but I loved the ending. It was a great book with had a good combination of humor, steam and love. The characters and their circumstances were realistic and believable. So, take a chance on this book and read it!I'll be looking out for more books from Tamara Matatya in the future :D
EXCERPT
Has an elevator ride ever taken so long? The slow circles he traces on the back of my hand with his thumb have me debating stopping the elevator and dragging him into a stairwell to get him naked now, but the elevator stops on my floor and we’re so close to my bed.
Door open, door closed, shoes were on, kick them off. No stopping to ask if he’d like something to drink, I pull him straight to the bedroom and turn to face him. His momentum crushes us together, and I press harder against him, wrap my arms around and grab that tight ass I’ve wanted to squeeze for years and grind against him. This time when my lips meet his, they’re curled into a satisfied smile because now there’s nothing stopping us but clothes and common sense.
One down.
His skin is smooth and warm beneath my hands, which I slide beneath the hem of his t-shirt before coaxing it over his head. Kissing down his throat and chest, lightly grazing it with my teeth, I’m rewarded with his intake of breath and his hands finding their way to my shoulders. He pulls me upright and kisses me hungrily. One hand wraps around, bending me back like a cobra, and he tangles his hand in my hair, squeezing my body in his arms like he can’t get enough.
I want him on top of me. Now.
We’re riding the same lusty wavelength, because he straightens and pulls back. “Take your shirt off. I need to see you.”
“Take your pants off,” I counter. “I need to feel you.”
His jeans hitting my floor is the most glorious sound I’ve ever heard.
“Now you.” His order is paired with hungry eyes.
I pull my shirt over my head slowly to make him wait. When I get it over my head and can see again, he’s moved closer and stands only inches away from me.
“Hi.” His voice is a smoldering bed of hot coals I want to roll around in.
“Hi.” I smile. “Want to help me with my pants?”
His long, well-formed fingers curl into the belt loops of my jeans and tug me closer. “You sure you need help, beautiful girl?”
I trail my hands over the chiseled contours of his abs and up his well-defined chest. “My hands are busy.”
The pull of the button and slide of the zipper and cool night air greets my thighs and calves. He’s bent closer to coax my jeans down and his hair smells woodsy and fresh like a forest after a storm. I stop him on his way up, my mouth on his again, and how will I ever get enough of these lips, this tongue, now that I’ve tasted this forbidden fruit?
