Just Friends by Monica MurphyRelease Date: September 13th, 2016
Genre: New Adult Romance
Synopsis:
It’s the end of summer. Just before I start senior year with my two best friends in the whole world. Dustin and Emily are everything to me. We’ve been inseparable since middle school, and when we’re together, nothing can go wrong.
But things aren’t always what they seem. Em’s turned into a drunken mess who parties too much. Dustin and I have hooked up a few times―and now he’s ready to take our relationship to the next level. Yet I’m not sure I want things to change. I’m scared if I take it any further with Dustin, our friendship will be ruined forever. Then there’s Ryan. The new guy. He’s hot. He flirts way too much. And Em has totally set her sights on him. So when my best friend betrays me in the worst possible way, guess who’s there to help me pick up the pieces of my broken heart? Ryan. But he’s so confusing. Annoying. Sweet. Sexy. I want to trust him, yet he makes it so hard. What I really want is for everything to go back to the way it was before. Before I found out that best friends make the worst kind of enemies.

Review:
I don't know how Monica Murphy does it, but she manages to write beautiful stories with flawed characters that I can't help but fall in love with. It's kind of weird to think that just 2-3 years back I was one of these confused teenagers.Almost seems like a different lifetime.
The author has managed to bring in the confused state of things, constant flux of emotions and of course!-the raging hormones with a wonderful storyline in this amazing, new mature YA novel.
Olivia has just come back home after spending the summer at her dad's place. Her parents are divorced and their relationship is still not that great. She has two best friends-Dustin and Emily whom she loves more than anything in the world. They have been missing each other greatly and she can't wait to hang out with them.Dustin lets her in on the fact that Emily has joined the rich kids gang and they have been partying all summer. There is also a surprise that awaits her.
Dustin and Olivia had also progressed beyond 'just friends' before she left for the summer. And though they haven't labelled things yet, she can't wait to see where it goes with him.Dustin has also been sending her pretty strong signals. When she comes back home, she meets Dustin and Emily along with Ryan- a new student and hot as hell football player. He and Emily have been hooking up with each other but they prefer to keep it casual.
As soon as Olivia enters, Ryan is interested in her.He doesn't make a secret out of the fact that he wants to pursue her.Olivia doesn't know what to make of this. She is both weirded out and flattered(as she is also attracted to him).Just when she thinks that she and Dustin can finally take the step next step into their relationship, a secret comes to light which leaves her feeling betrayed and angrier than ever.Olivia,Dustin and Emily'd friendship is broken. This leads Olivia down paths she has never been before. She forms new friendships and begins hanging out with Ryan who helps heal her broken heart. But, will it bring her happiness or heartbreak in the end?Read on to find out!
The characters were annoying at times- but duh!, they are teenagers- they are supposed to be annoying.Olivia is the typical confused girl- a little naive and she is just beginning to explore the world around her.I disliked Dustin in the beginning, but I ended up loving him by the end.The same goes for Ryan.Right now, after that ending I don't know who to trust.
I am a confused as poor Olivia! She gets so many warnings about Ryan. But, his behaviour tells a different story.Who to believe?Amanda and Jordan were amazing secondary characters.I can't wait to find out more about their story.
I appreciate the fact that Olivia's mom was present in the story. Many YA novels suffer from the absentee parent syndrome! But her mom's boyfriend was weird and creepy!I am curious to see where Ms.Murphy will take this story. The cliffhanger had me so frustrated!!Though I usually hate angst in books, I enjoyed it in this one!
Now, I'll be sitting here and counting down the days till the next book comes out!! :D
