Blurb

I find the love letters in my new dorm room, left behind by a previous occupant.

They're meant for someone else, but the words speak to me. They slide off the page and wrap themselves around my body, touching me in places I never knew existed.

I'm falling in love with each word, unable to stop myself.

And I don't even know his name.

Until they tell me.

His name is Judson Devereux. They say he’s toxic. Falling for him will be a mistake.

I want to believe them. I want to walk away. But the words refuse to be erased from the invisible parts of me.

I'm hooked on the scent of his poison. It’s bad for me. It could kill me. But I’m in too deep.

Review

I was hooked as soon as I read the blurb and I was hoping this book wouldn't disappoint me.Thankfully it didn't.It had my attention from the prologue itself!
This book isn't that long and mainly sets up the stage for the upcoming books in the series.

Twenty-three year old college student Ivy and her roommate Chelsea move into another dorm room when their old one gets water damage due to burst pipes. In the new room, Ivy finds a stack of explicit, passionate letters written by someone named JD to Jennifer.Though, she reluctantly begins reading them, she is soon caught up in the words and the heartfelt, all-consuming passion that the writer feels.

Even the revelation that JD is Judson Devereux- a former professor at her uni, who is in jail for apparently murdering a student and is awaiting trial- doesn't stop her. When she reads that he plans on commiting suicide if Jennifer dooesn't reply, she makes contact with him and urges him to live. This sparks the beginning of a whirlwind courtship through letters, edging on obsession, that leaves Ivy feeling excited and confused at the same time.

Despite being warned numerous times by her friends and even JD's ex Jennifer, she is reluctant to cut ties with him.As JD's letters to her become darker and more obsessive what will happen when she finally decides to move on from this? Will a man who has unlimited connections and an alleged murder to his name willingly let the object of dreams and obsession go?

What I loved the most about the book was the writing. It had a dark, intoxicating and suspenseful feel to it.On the other hand though the characters were well-developed, I wasn't really that fond of them. But, since this is the first book, I'm going to give it some time to form a connection with the characters.Ivy's past as an ex-model and her relationship with her mother, managed to shape her current characteristics. She is quite different from the usual heroines that we find. The supporting characters also added to the plot.I loved her roommate Chelsea. We don't really get a clear read on JD since we can see him only through the letters and I'm glad its that way.The upcoming books might finally throw some light on his intentions and personality.

And that ending!I'm dying to get my hands on the next book!! :D
