Synopsis

Anthony Carter has not had it easy in life. In a matter of months, he lost his mother to cancer along with his much coveted spot in a prestigious doctoral program. Swimming in debt, he’s been forced to move back to his hometown in rural Montana and take whatever job he can find. A drunken weekend in Vegas is exactly what he needs to help him forget his problems. A recent break-up with her boyfriend of nearly a decade has left straight-laced Liz Rockwell disillusioned with love and in desperate need of a vacation. She gets more than she bargained for when one drunken night at a Vegas bar results in her being married to Anthony. Embarrassed by her lapse in judgment, Liz is ready to make this whole night just go away. A quickie divorce seems like the best solution to their problem, until Anthony realizes who Liz really is. Known in the media as the Candy Heiress, billionaire Liz is the answer to Anthony’s prayers. All he has to do is convince her to write him a check. Unfortunately, Liz is not one to be easily intimated or coerced. Discovering the Rockwell family secret may be Anthony’s only hope. But the more time he spends with the intelligent and tenacious Liz, the more he realizes their chapel wedding may not have been such a drunken mistake after all…

Review

This book was quite different what I expected it to be, and that was a pleasant surprise. On reading the blurb,I was curious. We don't frequently come across a romance novel where the hero plans to blackmail or weasel his way in to get money from the heroine.I was wondering how the author would be able to make me like a hero who wanted to do something like this and how would I root for the heroine to end up with him?Especially considering the fact that this is a debut novel.

Somehow through the writing and characterizations I managed to fall in love with both Anthony  and Liz and kudos to the author for that.
As the summary describes, Anthony has been having a bad time lately. He has lost his mother to cancer and the position in a doctoral program at MIT due to a scandal. He is drowning in debt and is trying to make ends meet.To have a break he goes off to Vegas for a weekend where he meets Liz at the bar.

Liz has just broken up with her boyfriend of ten years and he has also moved on to another girlfriend immediately. On top of that she has been abandoned on her vacation by her two best friends and she is alone in Vegas. When she meets Anthony, they start chatting and have fun with their banter. But when they wake up the next morning, they discover that they are married!Liz suggests an annulment and Anthony initially agrees. But after he goes home, he discovers with the help of his roommate Thomas that the woman he is married to is Liz Rockwell- Candy Heiress, billionaire and member of the infamous Rockwell family.

With a little bit of persuasion from Thomas he decides to push her to give him some money to pay off his debts. He comes all the way to her house at Miami.Too bad he doesn't know who he is dealing with.Liz is a divorce attorney and knows things better than him.She is able to rebuff his suggestions. But Anthony isn't ready to give up.He somehow worms his way in and manages to get her to agree to give their marriage a shot for 30 days.If it doesn't work out, they divorce and go their separate ways.Liz is confident that she won't be falling for this farce. Will Anthony be able to make the confident and independent Liz fall for him?Or will it end in heartbreak and disappointment?

I personally loved Liz's character a lot.She was fierce, intelligent and awesome!I loved her personality and the sweet vulnerable side that she had.Her dad's countless marriages and her own failed relationship has made her lose belief in love. And here comes this guy who has the nerve to ask her for money and then persuade her to give their marriage a chance.Even Anthony underestimate Liz.He thought that she was perhaps a spoiled, rich princess. But she was the opposite. She worked hard and never used an ounce of the family money, working her own way up.

I honestly disliked Anthony in the beginning.Seriously, what guy does stuff like that? But slowly I began to see the other facets of his personality and I could emphatise with his situation.I loved his nerdy side and how he managed to fall for Liz in his quest to make her fall for him.He isn't intimidated by her or her independence. He respects her and cherishes her.Though his actions in the beginning might have been a bit dickish he managed to make up for them and grew on me.

Liz's family was weird and  hilarious!Anthony's reaction  upon seeing them was priceless!I also loved Liz's dedication to her brother Robbie. The secondary characters like Liz's bestfriend and cousin, her ex,co-workers were also well done. The ending was also sweet and the matter was resolved in a satisfactory manner.
So, if you're looking for a good romance with a different storyline and well fleshed-out characters with wonderful background stories, I suggest you to give this one a try.The steam in the book was a added bonus(Loved it!)
Can't wait for the next book in the series! :D

About Natalie Rios

Natalie can’t sing. Or dance. Or play an instrument. She can’t ride a bike and doesn’t know how to swim or drive. As a result, her husband often asks “Are you sure you’re not really from Mars?” (the answer, in case you were wondering, is no. Unless New York counts as another planet). When she’s not geeking out at her day job, Natalie can be found attempting to wrangle her overly energetic Westie, baking ridiculously chewy chocolate chip cookies, and watching so-bad-it’s-good reality television shows.
