This was a hilarious and light read, just what I needed after a week filled with stress and work.
In this book we have Kelsey Spencer who is a bestselling romance novelist, but a disillusioned and cynical one.She is considering writing in other genres and is tired of selling stories that might never happen in real life to starstruck readers.At the Las Vegas Romance Lovers Convention, she meets one of her biggest fans-Jasmine and her brother Aaron.
Jasmine has just been left at the altar by her fiance for another woman, who then proceeded to marry the same woman in Jasmine's dream wedding which she had painstakingly planned.Trying to cope and avoid the pain, she has abandoned her duties and come to Vegas to have fun.She is determined to recreate her romance novel fantasies and have a prince carry her off into a happy ever after.But do Prince Charmings exist in real life or all they all just toads?
In comes Jasmine's brother Aaron- an "alphahole" as we call him.Overprotective,stubborn and overbearing- he wants to keep Jasmine safe from making impulsive decisions.And it looks like she will marry a model who might be after her for just money in what looks like a whirlwind romance just like the novels.He enlists Kelsey's help to knock some sense, considering the fact she is one of Jasmine's favorite authors.
Kelsey also reluctantly agrees and end up spending more time together.Aaron is intrigued by this sexy yet cynical author.Kelsey isn't really impressed with Aaron's alpha tendencies in the beginning, but finds herself unable to resist him.As one crazy thing leads to another, will these two find out whether what they each believe about love is true or not?
This was a fun and relaxing read.It makes fun of the very genre its based on, but still delivers a hilarious and romantic tale.The characters were also well crafted.I really enjoyed reading about Kelsey and Aaron.Their interactions were also amazing.Jasmine was another interesting character.
You should definitely give this book a chance if you're looking for a cute, funny, angst-free romance!!
EXCERPT
“You’re right,” she said, and a weight lifted off her shoulders. “You’re right. So…are you going to her wedding?”
He nodded and gave her a half-smile. “Would you like to be my date?”
She laughed. “I don’t know. I might not be here for the festivities.”
He nodded and pulled his arm away, but for a second, she thought she saw disappointment flicker over his features, and she shivered.
When the bartender delivered the fresh beer, Kelsey slid off the stool with her half-finished mojito and lifted her chin toward the casino. “Sir, would you like an escort to the ball?” She offered her elbow, and he took it.
He deepened his voice to a bass. “I’d be much obliged, miss.”
They walked through the casino and took the escalator to the ballroom level. And when she turned to look at him, she warmed to find him staring at her.
“That dress is a pleasant surprise,” he said. They made way for two drunk women, their arms intertwined, to dash past, giggling and failing miserably to hide a bottle of vodka in their skirts.
“How so?” She fingered the expensive fabric—Deena’s consignment shopping was apparently a little more highbrow in New York than what Kelsey had found in San Antonio— and wondered if it looked too expensive for a nobody author like her.
“The color is perfect, but I like how it fits.” He smiled. “You don’t look like an author tonight. You look like royalty.”
She warmed and turned her head, thrilled by his words. But they were a reminder, too. Tonight, she was playing a part, wearing a dress that looked nicer than anything she could afford, and at midnight, she’d have to pick up her pumpkin and mice and find her way back to her desk to whip out more books. And Aaron would return home to rule his father’s kingdom.
