Passion and danger ignite. Dark and light battle. This explosive first installment of the Broken Bonds series sets the exhilarating pace for a cat and mouse game where no one knows who's really pulling the strings.

Criminal profiler Sadie Bonds knows blood. Her affair with the gruesome, dark world of killers began long before she started applying her analytical skills to investigate gory crime scenes. She gets inside the killers' heads, breaks them down, relates to them on an arcane level. She prefers it this way--because it's safer to ally herself with the villain than the victim. At least, that's how she's coped ever since she was abducted and tortured as a teen.

She will never be a victim again.

Now, she's honed her skills in order to bring justice to these ritualistic offenders. Working alongside her colleagues, armed with sharp wit and a SIG, Sadie always catches her sadist. Until one ruthless serial killer gets inside Sadie's head, turning the tables. He knows her secrets. Her obsessions. The darkest, most deviant part of her soul.

When she meets Colton Reed, dangerous stakes are raised as he threatens to unravel her control and reveal her darkest fantasies. The sexy-as-sin bondage rigger at an exclusive BDSM club pushes her boundaries, forcing her to acknowledge that side of herself she fears. Plunged into a realm of torture and suffering, pain and pleasure, Sadie balances on the razor-sharp edge of two intersecting worlds threatening to swallow her.
This was the first book of Trisha Wolfe's that I'd read a long time back and was enough to get me addicted to her writing! It's quite hard to find really great books in dark romance these days. There was a while when I used to read a string of dark erotica/romance books, that would keep me awake for days and leave me questioning my sanity. Safe to say that I don't find the time to read too many of those now, but I always make the time to re-read some of my favorites.
This is the first book in the Broken Bonds Series that follows Sadie and Colton's journey. Sadie is a criminal profiler who is great at what she does now, but her abduction during her teens has left a lasting impression on her psyche. But that has also given her the unique ability to look into crime scenes, re-imagine events with the clues and think about the possibilities from the killer/UNSUB's POV.

On the other hand, she also has a lot of unresolved issues and frequently visits BDSM clubs, always watching, never participating. There's also another person who is always watching her at the club, and that's Colton - a shibari expert and the club owner's brother. He recognizes the need in Sadie and aches to free her. But when both of them become embroiled in the latest serial killings, they grow closer, but so does the UNSUB!

I loved the attraction between Colton and Sadie! Its electric and and in this book Colton and his motives are still quite a mystery. We also get chapters from the UNSUB's POV as well, which piqued my curiosity. Both he and Sadie are quite obsessed with Elizabeth Bathory as well, which is quite interesting to think that even historically there might have been a female serial killer. But what I love the most is Trisha Wolfe's writing which has a lyrical quality. She doesn't rush the story, but slowly unwraps the events like presents with little easter eggs dropped here and there.

I'd definitely recommend this book if you're looking for something different in this genre! Trust me you will be hooked within a few minutes of reading! :D
