How can a hero save the world if he can't save himself?

Crime rages in Cardinal City. The fanatical Syndicate’s answer is to be judge, jury and executioner, even if that means destroying half the world to eradicate sin. The only thing standing in their way is a family of fearless vigilantes known as the Deadly Seven.

Created in a lab with his brothers and sisters, Evan Lazarus can sense deadly levels of envy, but when he’s blamed for a mass tragedy, it tears him and his heroic family apart. As the Deadly Seven self destructs, Evan loses himself in the city’s ruthless cage-fighting scene, slowly falling prey to the sin he was created to fight. His only hope is to find a partner who embodies his sin's opposing virtue, the last thing he expects to find is his soulmate…

Doctor Grace Go almost died in the blast that killed her parents, and learned a valuable lesson: envy eats nothing but its own heart. So she forged a life filled with purpose and now seeks justice for the survivors. When she crosses paths with a fiercely protective but damaged hero, a desire she thought long gone is ignited. But Grace is wary of risking her brittle heart on a disgraced hero, even if she can’t seem to stay away from him.

When a figure from Evan’s past emerges, in league with the Syndicate, their evil scheme threatens to destroy everything Evan holds dear. Pushed to the limits, he will have to pull his family from the brink of oblivion and become the hero the city needs, or will envy drive him to destroy Grace and his only chance at love and redemption forever?

Envy is the first full length novel in The Deadly Seven Vigilante Romance Series. If you like your superhero movies and TV shows, and your paranormal romance band of brothers and fated mate books, then you'll fall head over heels with the tortured heroes and sassy heroines of The Deadly Seven.

I was searching for a good book to read on KU, when I came across Envy and as soon as I read the blurb I was intrigued! Seven Deadly Sins meets Superhero Romance? Sign me up for that! I've read many paranormal romance books featuring the seven deadly sins, but not a superhero one, and definitely not in the way the author has described it! And also, I love super-hero/super-villain romances, but they are so hard to find!

This book was unique from the get-go, and I loved the Lazarus family, their powers and their bonds. The five brothers and two sisters were genetically engineered in a lab(with the goal to eradicate the abundance of sin in the world) and have the ability to sense the levels of their respective sins in other people around them and use this to fight crime. We have Evan(Envy), Griffin(Greed), Wyatt(Wrath), Tony(Gluttony), Liza(Lust), Sloan(Sloth) and Parker(Pride). And let's not forget the parents who adopted them - the kickass Mary and Flint!

This book features Evan Lazarus who is a tattoo artist and the superhero Envy at night. The Deadly Seven worked together to fight crimes and save Cardinal City, till a tragedy forced them apart. Evan, the youngest Lazarus, is the only one who still goes out to fight at night, but he is in danger of losing himself to his sin, if he doesn't find a way to balance it. And though the Deadly Seven were blamed for something they didn't do, Evan is driven by the desire to prove to his family that someone close to them was the one who betrayed them, though they never believed him.

Enter Dr.Grace Go, whose parents died in the blast that the Deadly Seven were believed to be involved in, but she remembers a different version of the events and believes the vigilantes to be innocent. So, she tries to investigate on her own, but no-one has really believed her till her now.
When Evan meets Grace, he starts developing new powers and feels a sense of peace that he has never really gotten till now. Turns out, each one of them has a soulmate out there who would be the exact opposite of their sin, and they could help them balance their abilities and develop new powers. The siblings had never really believed in this and thought it was just a story till now.

The author has created a really unique setup for this new series and the story moved really fast. The book had me turning the pages to know what would happen next! My favourite part about this book was the family dynamics! Though they have their differences and squabbles, they still manage to come together when one of them is in danger. Each sibling has a different personality, and it was so fun to read about them. Mary and Flint were such great, supportive parents! The world-building and few other things gave me Arrow feels!

The romance was another plus point, but I felt like a little more time could have been spent developing it. Evan and Grace shone as individual characters and the chemistry between them was undeniable, but I just felt like they could have had more time discovering things about each other.
There was a good balance between action, romance and humour in the book!

All in all, I think this is a great start to a promising new series and I can't wait to see where the author takes the story and the characters! I'd definitely recommend this book to anyone who is a superhero-romance fan! It has the perfect mix of action and romance in it!
