Book Review : Wolf Gone Wild by Juliette Cross

Wolf Gone Wild by Juliette Cross
Series : Stay A Spell #1
Genre : Paranormal Romance
Publication Date : January 14th, 2020

What's the worst thing that can happen to a werewolf? Unable to shift for three months, Mateo Cruz knows all too well. His wolf has taken up residence in his head, taunting him night and day with vividly violent and carnal thoughts. Convinced he's cursed, he needs the help of a powerful witch before he literally goes insane.

Evie Savoie has always obeyed the house rules of her coven--no werewolves. They're known for being moody and volatile. So, when a distempered, dangerous werewolf strolls into the bar and almost strangles one of her late-night customers, she's ready to bounce him through the door. But the desperation in his eyes when he begs her to help him softens her heart and convinces her to bend the rules.

What Evie doesn't know is that Mateo's wolf has a mind of his own. And now that she's in his sights, he wants only one thing. Her.

I've previously read and loved Juliette Cross' PNR books(especially the Vampire Blood series), so I was naturally super excited to read a new urban fantasy book from her!
I loved the premise and I found it a little different from the usual werewolf romances that we come across! A werewolf hero who hears his wolf in his head(as a different entity) + a powerful witch heroine who breaks curses(and is a big time nerd too!) Doesn't that sound like an awesome combination?

Mateo is a werewolf who has been unable to shift for three months! Alpha, his inner wolf, has been a constant pain in the ass for him, with the impulsive and violent thoughts that he keeps pushing into Mateo's head. It's gotten to the point where Mateo has regular conversations with his inner wolf!Lol!
He finally decides to seek the help of the Savoie sisters, especially the one who can break powerful curses! Too bad, they aren't really fond of werewolves!Heh!

Evie Savoie is a hex breaker, who works at her sister's bar and she's a sunny but quirky heroine! The Savoie sisters decide to help Mateo, putting aside their dislike of werewolves, but it looks like they might run out of time to help him if they don't figure out what the problem is soon!

My favorite thing about this one was definitely getting to hear Alpha and his thoughts! Alpha was laugh out loud hilarious at times and you could definitely see the contrasting differences between him and Mateo in the beginning! Mateo is quite the beta hero and he tries to stay away from Evie at first, but the pull is just too irresistible and Alpha calms down when he's near her! Evie is a nerd after my own heart, but she also came across as a little naive and too bubbly! But, I think that suited Mateo perfectly!
We also get to meet the other Lavoie sisters, with such varying personalities, but close family bonds!

The chemistry between Mateo and Evie was delicious! I could feel the instant attraction between them! But, I do think we could have spent a little more time exploring the relationship between them! The first half of the book was amazing, after which it slowed down a little, before picking up again! There wasn't much in the sense of action or suspense, with just an easy reveal of the person who cursed Mateo, but I don't think that's something to complain about as the overall feel of the book is light with a steamy romance!
And another plus is definitely the setting! The descriptions of NOLA and the overall magical feeling was amazing! Also, branching off from the typical pack relations in werewolf romances, this book features werewolves who are mostly loners, with a few others that form packs for their own purposes! I can't wait to see more of this world-building and read details about the other supernatural races!
I'm super curious to see more of the relationship between Jules and Ruben, but I'm guessing Violet and Nico are next! I hope the next book in the series comes out soon! xD
I'd recommend this to anyone who is looking for a light, hilarious werewolf romance with delicious steam on the side! And it's on KU! So, that's a steal if you ask me!

Juliette lives in moss-laden Cajun country in Louisiana where she lives with her husband, four kids, and black lab, Kona. She is a multi-published author of paranormal and fantasy romance with confident, persevering heroines and dark, sexy heroes. While she enjoys reading and writing the dark, broody types, she also appreciates the fun, levity of humor in a good love story, so she tries to give her characters both on their way to their HEA.
