Went in blind because it was a Skye Warren book and what a ride it was!
It's been quite a while since I read a dark romance book, but I can always depend on Skye Warren for a captivating and delicious story! Her books were some of the first few that I read in this genre so it's pretty great to escape into another story that she has created!
I was pretty surprised while reading the Hidden Gem novella, when I found that Holly was the daughter of Evie and Hunter from Wanderlust, which was one of my first Skye Warren books and favorite dark romance story!
So I was super excited to read Holly's story and it was quite good!
Holly has just come to Paris to try to find her missing sister, London, when she's kidnapped just outside the airport and pulled into a twisted game! Her captor has put her into a cell with an injured man and she must play their games to get out safely, so that she can find out what happened to her sister. Little does she know that the man next to her is someone from her past and this isn't a random coincidence that has brought them together!
I don't want to give away any spoilers so I'm just going to stop here and say that you'd definitely enjoy this one more if you go in blind! I loved Holly and Elijah's story in this one and it wasn't really that dark(compared to Wanderlust and other books lol)
Holly is a little naive and innocent at first, but she's pretty smart and resilient too! And Elijah was so hot and intense! The chemistry between them is off-the-charts and I loved all the steamy scenes. There is also the underlying mystery of Holly's sister's disappearance, the diamonds and Elijah's involvement in all of this.
Though I loved the writing and the characters, I think that the relationship between Holly and Elijah could have used a bit more emotional development! Their shared past and the things that they're forced to do brings them closer to each other, but I just wanted more you know? I'm hoping we get that in the next two books! And be warned that there is a cliffy at the end of this one, so that you're not disappointed like me when you find out that there are two more books in the series. I totally didn't expect that ending and I almost screamed in frustration lol! Can't wait for book two!
