ARC Review : Emerald Blaze by Ilona Andrews

Emerald Blaze by Ilona Andrews
Series : Hidden Legacy #5
Genre : Paranormal Romance
Publisher : Avon
Publication Date : August 25th, 2020
As Prime magic users, Catalina Baylor and her sisters have extraordinary powers—powers their ruthless grandmother would love to control. Catalina can earn her family some protection working as deputy to the Warden of Texas, overseeing breaches of magic law in the state, but that has risks as well. When House Baylor is under attack and monsters haunt her every step, Catalina is forced to rely on handsome, dangerous Alessandro Sagredo, the Prime who crushed her heart.

The nightmare that Alessandro has fought since childhood has come roaring back to life, but now Catalina is under threat. Not even his lifelong quest for revenge will stop him from keeping her safe, even if every battle could be his last. Because Catalina won't rest until she stops the use of the illicit, power-granting serum that's tearing their world apart.

Aah! There aren't enough words in this world for me to describe how much I love Ilona Andrews and their books! I've devoured every single thing that they've written and I will continue to do so, just like a hungry dragon lol! I didn't even need to read this one before I knew I'd love it, because come on everything that IA writes is perfection! Regardless of that, as soon as the ARC had landed on my kindle I finished it in one sitting. It was that good!

Catalina and Alessandro were even better in this one! We get so much more information, so many twists and turns, and surprises! And yes, there was the much-needed groveling from Alessandro after the events of the previous book. I've loved watching Catalina grow throughout the series from a witty, moody teen to a young woman who is juggling new responsibilities that have been thrust onto her. The character growth is even more evident in this one, where we get to see a more mature, hardened version of herself who has accepted her powers and is willing is to do whatever it takes to keep her loved ones safe.

We also get to unravel the mystery of Alessandro(Finally!) and to my ultimate satisfaction - we were able to dig out all the secrets that he had been hiding in the previous book while being his mysterious Italian self. 😒 Anyway, I was really happy with the progress in their relationship and how frank Alessandro is with his intentions now. Oh, let's not forget the undeniable chemistry and the steamy scenes between them! Sooo, worth the wait! 🔥 Both Catalina and Alessandro were great characters both together and individually, but for me, Catalina really shone in this one! She has made it onto my list of favorite IA heroines along with Kate and Nevada.

I don't want to give away any details regarding the plot, but I just want to say that it was even better than Sapphire Flames! It's fast-paced, with new characters and revelations! As always, I've loved seeing the Baylor family work together and kick-ass, while being their sarcastic, witty selves. They're truly a family I would love to meet! I was literally unable to put the book down until I reached the last page and that ending? IA, why are you doing this to us? *Puppy dog eyes* Please give me the next book!

While the book was one of my best reads in 2020, I still have so many unanswered questions and theories that are circling around in my head. So many speculations about Caesar's identity and future events. Guess, I'll have to sit and wait patiently for the next book. :D *goes off to read book one again*

Ilona Andrews (Author of Magic Bites)

“Ilona Andrews” is the pseudonym for a husband-and-wife writing team. Ilona is a native-born Russian and Gordon is a former communications sergeant in the U.S. Army. Contrary to popular belief, Gordon was never an intelligence officer with a license to kill, and Ilona was never the mysterious Russian spy who seduced him. They met in college, in English Composition 101, where Ilona got a better grade. (Gordon is still sore about that.)

Gordon and Ilona currently reside in Texas with their two children and many dogs and cats.

They have co-authored several bestselling series, including the #1 NYT bestselling urban fantasy of Kate Daniels, rustic fantasy of the Edge, paranormal romance of Hidden Legacy, and Innkeeper Chronicles, which they post as a free weekly serial.
