B&N
I'd re-read this one in January before I went into my ARC of How To Be A Wallflower and it was so much fun the second time around! 😆 Eloisa James is one of my favorite authors in historical romance. I think that she can take any premise and make it so much fun and interesting to read about! This is one of the few books with love-at-first-sight that I ended up loving so much!

In My American Duchess, we have Mary Pelford, an American heiress who has now been engaged for the third time and she's determined to make it last instead of calling it off like the previous two times!😂

And, at her nod, "What happened to your first fiancé?"
"Bertie had a lovely nose, but he was terribly bellicose", she confessed.

Her new fiance is the brother of a duke and though he has his fair share of shortcomings, Mary doesn't want to ruin everything by calling off this engagement as well. And in an unexpected manner, she ends up meeting a magnetic man at a ball and has a delightful conversation with him. But, he turns out to be her fiance's brother! Lol!

Gossips back home called her "Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary" behind her back. What sensible man would trust her to keep her promise?

The Duke of Trent should ideally marry a proper Englishwoman, but he's doomed from the moment he meets Merry and falls for her, only to find out that she's engaged to his twin brother! Merry and Trent are total opposites. He's stoic and responsible while Merry is flighty, wild and passionate. He's the typical stuffy English Duke, while she's the outspoken and unique American who stands out amongst the mass of prim-and-proper debutantes. They should have nothing to do with each other but the attraction between them is off the charts!

I absolutely loved the witty banter and the humorous conversation that they had with each other! Their relationship starts off with attraction but it slowly turns into mutual respect and admiration. The sexual tension between these two was my favorite and I loved how they brought out the unexpected in each other! And even though they end up married after a series of events, these two have decided not to fall in love with each other(with Trent being the most stubborn about it). I was shaking my head at these two!

Then she nodded. "I shall keep my vows, Duke. I will be your friend and you will be mine. You will take me to see the pineappple stove and I ...." She gave him an impish smile. "I will not fall in love with you."
I was like - Too late! Lol 😂 You know what happens when one of the MCs says that they won't fall in love.

Another thing that I liked was the secondary set of characters who added so much fun to the story! Merry's aunt Bess is a hoot! And let's not forget the two adorable dogs - George and Snowdrop! Trent's brother - Cedric wasn't portrayed as a complete asshat either which was another thing that surprised me. Would love to see his story as well! Eloisa has also done a great job by showing the differences that set Americans apart from the British and the pineapples - omg!🍍😂😂 I didn't know about the role that they played in British society and it's my favorite fruit lol!
Anyway, I'll stop gushing about this one now! Give it a try if you're looking for a witty, humorous and steamy historical romance or if you just find yourself curious about pineapples! 😉

P.S. I love the stepback for the book!
