New York Times bestselling author Adalyn Grace brings to life a highly romantic, Gothic-infused world of wealth, desire, and betrayal.

Orphaned as a baby, nineteen-year-old Signa has been raised by a string of guardians, each more interested in her wealth than her well-being—and each has met an untimely end. Her remaining relatives are the elusive Hawthornes, an eccentric family living at Thorn Grove, an estate both glittering and gloomy. Its patriarch mourns his late wife through wild parties, while his son grapples for control of the family’s waning reputation and his daughter suffers from a mysterious illness. But when their mother’s restless spirit appears claiming she was poisoned, Signa realizes that the family she depends on could be in grave danger and enlists the help of a surly stable boy to hunt down the killer.

However, Signa’s best chance of uncovering the murderer is an alliance with Death himself, a fascinating, dangerous shadow who has never been far from her side. Though he’s made her life a living hell, Death shows Signa that their growing connection may be more powerful—and more irresistible—than she ever dared imagine.

Belladonna by Adalyn Grace was one that I'd seen on bookstagram so many times and I knew I had to read it(for that cover and blurb alone, and also because Death is the love interest okay?!?) And what a read to end my October with!❣️👀 It was my first time reading this author's writing and I was sucked in from the very first line! All of the elements together created the perfect gothic atmosphere!⁣
Signa Farrow is a nineteen year old orphan who's been shuffled around from one guardian to another - just as they mysteriously keep dying, earning her a reputation for being cursed. Just like any other young girl, she just wants to lead a normal life while enjoying time in society. But, her life is vastly different from her expectations. Not only is she capable of seeing ghosts, she also can't die and everytime she 'almost' dies, she can see Death🤣 Which is why she's always carrying around belladonna berries & eating them😂 it's not a game y'all.⁣
So, after her aunt dies she's sent off to the Hawthornes - where she does find a family and a mystery too!👀 Lillian Hawthorne had just died from a mysterious disease and her daughter Blythe seems to be afflicted by the same. As Signa grows closer to them, she becomes determined to save Blythe from whatever is making her ill, while also trying to navigate her introduction to society.⁣
I loved the mix of mystery, fantasy and romance in this one! Signa has a lot of growing to do and it was so satisfying to watch her change from a hesitant and lonely girl to the confident young woman! There's also Death - who accompanies her and helps her solve the mystery too😆 He helps her embrace her powers and not be afraid of being different. The romance between them was soo good! I love it when fate brings characters together in my fantasy reads!😂 The mystery also kept me engrossed though some things might have been easy to guess. Also, I don't understand how nobody in their house cared about the poisoning? It feels like only Signa insisted on finding the truth 🤷🏻‍♀️ ⁣
In the end, I really loved this one and I can't wait to read Foxglove (I've got many theories 👀)
