Trish Doller’s The Suite Spot is a charming romance novel about taking a chance on a new life and a new love.

Rachel Beck has hit a brick wall. She’s a single mom, still living at home and trying to keep a dying relationship alive. Aside from her daughter, the one bright light in Rachel’s life is her job as the night reservations manager at a luxury hotel in Miami Beach—until the night she is fired for something she didn’t do.

On impulse, Rachel inquires about a management position at a brewery hotel on an island in Lake Erie called Kelleys Island. When she’s offered the job, Rachel packs up her daughter and makes the cross country move.

What she finds on Kelleys Island is Mason, a handsome, moody man who knows everything about brewing beer and nothing about running a hotel. Especially one that’s barely more than foundation and studs. It’s not the job Rachel was looking for, but Mason offers her a chance to help build a hotel—and rebuild her own life—from the ground up.

Happy Saturday!❣️ The weekend's almost here so I'm hoping to get some rest and catch up on reading but idk for sure because I might have some work. Haven't gotten much reading done in the last few days. My last read was The Suite Spot by Trish Doller and it was a bit meh 😕 I loved the first book Float Plan(one of my favorites from last year) and I should've read this one months back since I had an ARC but I kept putting it off(anyone else do that?) 😂⁣
It started off well with single mom Rachel Beck losing her job because of someone else's actions. She gets tired of stuff and does something uncharacteristic by impulsively accepting a job offer at a brewery hotel on Kelley's Island. But only after moving there with her daughter Maisie does she find out that the hotel isn't even complete and the owner - Mason himself is unsure of what must be done. It's not like he doesn't have ideas, but he's shut himself off after some painful experiences and she decides to stay and help him out with the construction, management and everything.⁣
The first half was good imo and Rachel's voice was honest - her struggles, the little jealousy that she feels when she sees her sister being happier and her desire to break out of her comfort zone. Her relationship with her daughter Maisie was so cute and I loved seeing her make friends after she came to the island. Mason was pretty great and it was nice to see him slowly come out of his shell. But as much as I liked the friendship between them, I didn't really feel the connection? Romantically I felt like something was missing. And even though they do talk about his loss, it's not really focused on later. Nor does he get that close to Maisie. I understand his issues but I would have loved more bonding in the end atleast. Also, the custody issue in the last bit was so weird? There were so many ways to solve that while staying on the island but why did Rachel have to pack everything up and leave? It felt so forced! Anyway, the second half disappointed me, but others might enjoy it 🤷🏻‍♀️ Float Plan still remains my fave and I'll be reading the next book too, but I hope it's better than this one 🤣
