Places We've Never Been by Kasie West
A sweet and swoony contemporary Young Adult novel about a
cross-country family road trip that puts one girl and her
childhood best friend on an unexpected road to romance!
Norah hasn’t seen her childhood best friend, Skyler, in years.
When he first moved away, they'd talk all the time, but lately
their relationship has been reduced to liking each other’s
Instagram posts. That’s why Norah can’t wait for the joint RV road
trip their families have planned for the summer.
But when Skyler finally arrives, he seems...like he’d rather be
anywhere else. Hurt and confused, Norah reacts in kind. Suddenly,
her oldest friendship is on the rocks.
An unexpected summer spent driving across the country leads both
Norah and Skyler down new roads and to new discoveries. Before
long, they are, once again, seeing each other in a different
light. Can their friendship-turned-rivalry turn into something
more?
There are some YA authors that I know I'll always love and Kasie West is one of them. I've been reading her books since I was a teen and they always give me those feel good vibes!✨ And it hasn't changed even now(I'm thankful for that and I hope it never does😂) and I don't really feel too old when I read them either(I've had some other YA books do that these days and I wasn't prepared for that lol💔).
Places We've Never Been was such a cute childhood friends to lovers(my favorite type of f2l) romance with a road trip setting!🚙 Norah is an aspiring video game designer, who is quite excited about meeting her childhood best friend- Skyler after many years, as their families are now going on a roadtrip together. They used to spend all of their time together as kids with a shared love for art, and though they may have grown apart after Skyler moved away, she's very excited about reconnecting with him.
But contrary to her expectations he doesn't seem too interested in this road trip or spending time with each other :/ And now they have to spend a few weeks in each other's company 😂 Luckily, they have their mothers(the orginal bffs😂), Norah's elder brother Ezra and Skyler's siblings - Austin and Paisley coming along too! And as if being anxious about her upcoming college interview wasn't enough, Norah finds out that the moms might be hiding some secrets too and there's a reason for this impromptu road trip!
This one was such a delightful read! I found Norah very relatable with her overthinking and overanalyzing and her love for gaming! The desire to reconnect with friends when you've drifted apart. I used to feel like my world was ending whenever I moved and had to leave behind some friends 😢 and there are some friendships that have drifted apart over time and I've learned to accept that it's natural(doesn't hurt less) but the younger me would be so upset about these things. So, I could relate to both Norah and Skyler.
And Skyler was so sweet and lovely! I was like why's he being rude at first. But then some things are revealed and I understood why he did that just as Norah had this realization too. I wouldn't really blame him lol😂 I loved watching them reconnect and getting these glimpses of the time that they spent together (so freakin cute y'all). I felt like the connection between them had never faded. And the attraction between them comes to life too! Loved the banter between them, the playfulness when the siblings spend time together and how supportive+encouraging their moms are! I wasn't too surprised when some of the secrets came out, but I liked how it fit into the story! The ending was just as wholesome! Anyway if you're looking for an adorable YA romance that's guaranteed to leave you in a happier mood you should definitely give this one a try(or any of Kasie West's books actually!)❣️✨
