Something Wilder by Christina Lauren
Growing up the daughter of notorious treasure hunter and absentee
father Duke Wilder left Lily without much patience for the
profession… or much money in the bank. But Lily is nothing if not
resourceful, and now uses Duke’s coveted hand-drawn maps to guide
tourists on fake treasure hunts through the red rock canyons of
Utah. It pays the bills but doesn’t leave enough to fulfill her
dream of buying back the beloved ranch her father sold years ago,
and definitely not enough to deal with the sight of the man she
once loved walking back into her life with a motley crew of
friends ready to hit the trails. Frankly, Lily would like to take
him out into the wilderness—and leave him there.
Leo Grady knew mirages were a thing in the desert, but they’d
barely left civilization when the silhouette of his greatest
regret comes into focus in the flickering light of the campfire.
Ready to leave the past behind him, Leo wants nothing more than to
reconnect with his first and only love. Unfortunately, Lily Wilder
is all business, drawing a clear line in the sand: it’s never
going to happen.
But when the trip goes horribly and hilariously wrong, the group
wonders if maybe the legend of the hidden treasure wasn’t a
gimmick after all. There’s a chance to right the wrongs—of Duke’s
past and their own—but only if Leo and Lily can confront their
history and work together. Alone under the stars in the isolated
and dangerous mazes of the Canyonlands, Leo and Lily must decide
whether they’ll risk their lives and hearts on the adventure of a
lifetime.
And I just finished reading Something Wilder by Christina Lauren!
I'm kinda behind on their new releases (the last book of theirs that
I'd read was In A Holidaze I think?) so when I saw this paperback
the other day, I decided to give it a try.
Lily Wilder, the daughter of a famous treasure hunter had always
dreamt of owning and running her family ranch, but after a series of
events she now provides guided tours in the Canyonlands National Park
with some fake treasure hunts based on her father's hand-drawn maps.
Her newest group of guests from the city brings in a surprise as one
of them is Leo, her first love and her first heartbreak. Leo had been
taking care of his younger sister and working hard at his job for many
years, so now that his sister has graduated he's ready to take a
much-needed break with this trip that was planned by his friend.
Though he's equally surprised he's not wary as Lily and is somewhat
eager to reconnect with her as he realizes that he's never been able
to move on from her. But what was supposed to be a simple trip turns
into something more adventurous (even dangerous) as they're
sidetracked by some chaotic events and end up going on an actual
treasure hunt!
I loved the dual pov and the second chance romance with the honest
communication between them! Neither was to blame for the previous
events and I'm glad that was resolved early. I'd say the romance takes
a backseat at times as the focus is on the treasure hunt. But, for me
that was fun and I really enjoyed reading this one! The only thing
that I probably will always miss is the steam from the earlier CL
books but nvm I think I've gotten used to this now!🤣
