ARC Review : In Which Winnie Halifax Is Utterly Ruined by Alexandra Vasti

In Which Winnie Halifax Is Utterly Ruined by Alexandra Vasti
Series : Halifax Hellions #3
Genre : Historical Romance, Novella
Publication Date : August 21st, 2023
In 1811, Winifred Wallace told one tiny lie. To secure her future as an independent sheep farmer, she invented an estranged husband named Mr. Spencer Halifax and forged their marriage record. Ten years later, her deception catches up with her: in the form of the disturbingly real, distressingly attractive earl on her doorstep.

Spencer Halifax wants to set a good example for his beloved hellion sisters. Ever since their father’s death, he’s tried to play the role of steady, sensible earl—and involving himself with a moderately felonious sheep farmer is decidedly not sensible. But Winnie’s unfettered passion and fierce self-reliance draw him in, even as her closely guarded secrets keep him out.

When Spencer asks Winnie to travel with him to London to disentangle their semi-legal union, she’s horrified. London, after all, is where her infamous mother pilfered several lavish necklaces from besotted noblemen. But she cannot pass up the chance to return the stolen jewelry—so she agrees to travel with Spencer and give back the gems on the sly.

Returning the jewelry, however, is more difficult than Winnie imagined. Monkeys commit theft. Footmen tryst in inconvenient locales. And Winnie realizes that the only way forward is to trust Spencer with the truth of her past—even if doing so threatens their pretend marriage and the all-too-real feelings between them.

I think this is my new favorite in the Halifax Hellions series now!😍 I swear these novellas are better than some of the full length HR books that I've read and they have just the right amount of everything - romance, humor and steam, without feeling incomplete!

It all starts when Winifred Wallace tells a tiny lie by making up a fake husband as she tries to start a sheep farming business after moving to Wales. And then ten years later, a very real Spencer Halifax shows up on her doorstep(actually the prison door but haha that was too funny 🤣) and it turns out he's an earl! Due to a series of situations they might actually be married 😂, so Spencer asks her to return to London with him while they find a suitable resolution. Winnie agrees to this as it'll be a chance to return the necklaces that her mother had stolen from certain gentlemen before leaving her daughter and running off to Paris. But this fake marriage might just turn into something real as both of them spend more time with each other!

Both Winnie and Spencer were such well developed characters and the relationship between them was so amazing! Winnie is independent and strong but she's soft on the inside and very responsible too! Spencer was the perfect cinnamon roll - caring and gentle(with blushing ears😆). He just wants to be a good brother to his sisters and help Winnie too🥹 These two were so cute together! There are many hilarious moments as they try to return the jewels(& lots of steam too😉). Actually, I didn't want this to end but this was such an adorable story! I can't believe that this will be the last novella😩 Can we get a short story with all of them together? Pretty please!
This one is out now and you can read these novellas for free just by signing up for the author's newsletter(could there be anything better?)❣️✨

Alexandra Vasti comes from a long line of romance-reading Vasti women. She fell in love with historical romance at age 11 and still swoons for Laura Kinsale and Judith McNaught.

Alex lives in Louisiana, where she teaches literature at a university by day and writes romance by night. Somewhere in there she also raises three kids and two mostly feral kitties. She’s powered by guacamole and oat milk lattes, though not usually at the same time.
