Haunted Hookup by Eliza McLane

He’s a skeptic.
She's a believer.
Three nights in a haunted house will change their lives forever.

Alice Calderon loves being scared. Raised on ghost stories by her grandmother, she craves the tingle that comes with a good fright. But her adult life is a gray-scale repetition of her tedious, over-demanding job and non-existent personal life, so when Alice is invited to spend three nights at The Hathaway House—the haunted house she’s been obsessed with her whole life—she knows it’s just the thrill she needs. Her weekend gets even more exciting when she meets a mysterious vampire at the opening night costume party. He’s hot, charming, and ready to help her play out some of her darker fantasies.

Dominic Costa hates the dark, and anything that lurks in the shadows. He travels the world writing, never settling long enough to reckon with his own demons or face his loneliness. When the opportunity arises to write an expose about the infamous Hathaway House, he knows it’s his chance to see for himself that there are no such things as ghosts, including Ruby Hathaway, who’s said to be haunting the mansion since she died there in a fire a century ago. And although Dominic is on assignment, there may be some time to play--especially with the shimmering butterfly of a woman he can’t tear his eyes, or hands, away from. But when a balcony tryst is interrupted by a fire in the library, their masks come off to reveal Dominic and Alice are’t strangers at all. As the two reignite an old connection, Ruby is determined to make them notice her at any cost, even if it means doing some igniting of her own. It's not clear what exactly Ruby wants from them, but one thing is three nights in Hathaway House will change their lives forever.

Eliza's holiday novellas are some of my faves because they have the right amount of everything - plot, romance and steam - without making me feel like I'm missing out and giving me the same satisfaction that a full length book would! Haunted Hookup had all of these things too, along with a spooky touch - while not being too creepy - and I loved that! ⁣
So, in this one we have Alice Calderon who grew up hearing ghost stories from her grandmother - especially ones that involve the Hathaway House, and when she's invited to spend three nights here, she readily accepts it. It'd give her a much needed break from her monotonous life and allow her to get closer to the house(and its inhabitants) that she's spent so much time researching. On the first night there's a costume party where she meets a mysterious vampire 🧛 and they get closer😉 But when the masks come off they find out that they're actually not strangers to each other!⁣
The characters in this one were amazing! Alice is usually very shy, but Hathaway House and Dominic bring out the boldness in her. It was so nice to see her light up whenever she talked about the house and its story.⁣
While Dominic might be her opposite when it comes to believing in ghosts and supernatural existence, I think they had some things in common too. I loved the fact that Dom had his own reasons but he was never dismissive of Alice's beliefs too. And the small hint of pining from his side 👌I loved the romance between them and how comfortable they were with each other(also the steam🔥)!⁣
This one comes out tomorrow so I hope you'll grab it if you're in the mood for a Halloween novella!🎃

I was provided with an ARC in exchange for an honest review

Eliza McLane (she/her) writes steamy romance full of enthusiastic consent, usually with a heavy helping of dirty talk.
