The many lives of theoretical physicist Elsie Hannaway have finally caught up with her. By day, she’s an adjunct professor, toiling away at grading labs and teaching thermodynamics in the hopes of landing tenure. By other day, Elsie makes up for her non-existent paycheck by offering her services as a fake girlfriend, tapping into her expertly honed people pleasing skills to embody whichever version of herself the client needs.

Honestly, it’s a pretty sweet gig—until her carefully constructed Elsie-verse comes crashing down. Because Jack Smith, the annoyingly attractive and broody older brother of her favorite client, turns out to be the cold-hearted experimental physicist who ruined her mentor’s career and undermined the reputation of theorists everywhere. And that same Jack who now sits on the hiring committee at MIT, right between Elsie and her dream job.

Elsie is prepared for an all-out war of scholarly sabotage but…those long, penetrating looks? Not having to be anything other than her true self when she’s with him? Will falling into an experimentalist’s orbit finally tempt her to put her most guarded theories on love into practice?

I really enjoyed this one and it's probably my new favorite from Ali(right up there with The Love Hypothesis)! It's got some similar vibes to her previous books but it's quite different at the same time(don't worry - no oblivious MCs or miscommunication).⁣
Elsie is a theoretical physicist who works as an adjunct professor and is barely able to make ends meet. So, she also has a side job where she poses as a fake girlfriend and her latest client is Greg who has asked her to pretend to be his girlfriend to get his mom off his back. And though Greg is not the problem, his older brother Jack is wary about her. And in a surprising twist of things, Elsie runs into Jack again when she's interviewing for a faculty position at MIT and finds out that he is the head of the MIT Physics Institute and is also the experimental physicist who ruined her mentor's career with an article 👀 Jack is equally surprised by her and wonders whether she's been tricking his brother, but that doesn't stop the sparks from flying between them!⁣
Elsie is a hardcore people pleaser - to the point that she observes everyone and transforms herself into someone that they'd like. Jack is the first person who sees beyond her facade and actually asks her to just be her real self. I loved watching Elsie open up and finally be herself. At the same time I also loved how confident Jack was and he was upfront about his attraction to her! No guessing games, so the romance was amazing!⁣
We also get to see more about the politics in academia and all the stuff about theoretical and experimental physicists(which I didn't even know about?). And I loved the Adam and Olive cameo 😍 ⁣

In the end, it was another wonderful STEM romance from Ali and if you've enjoyed her previous books you'll love this one too!❣️✨
