Book Review : A Rogue to Remember by Emily Sullivan

A Rogue to Remember by Emily Sullivan
Series : League of Scoundrels #1
Genre : Historical Romance
Publication date : March 9th, 2021

In this irresistible historical romance, a seasoned spy sets out to rescue the childhood friend he once loved from a reputation-destroying rumor—only to discover that she is actually the source.

After enduring five interminable seasons, Lottie Carlisle has had enough of shallow London society, her boring little life, and her uncle Alfred's meddling. When he demands she accept a proposal by the end of next season or else he will choose a husband for her, she devises a plan: create a scandal shocking enough to make her unmarriageable and spend her spinsterhood far enough away in the countryside where no one will ever recognize her.

Alec Gresham hasn't seen Lottie since he left his childhood friend without a word five years ago. So he's not surprised to find her furious when he appears on her doorstep. Especially bearing the news he brings: her uncle is dying, her blasted reputation is still intact, and Lottie must return home. As they make the journey back to her family estate, it becomes increasingly clear that the last five years hasn't erased their history, nor their explosive chemistry. Can Lottie look past her old heartache and trust Alec, or will his secrets doom their relationship once again?

I've been trying to get through some of the books that have been on my physical tbr for a while and I ended up reading A Rogue To Remember by Emily Sullivan this weekend. It was my first from this author and I was surprised and definitely impressed - can't believe it was a debut novel! It had an amazing childhood friends-to-lovers romance with a road trip+only one bed(I didn't have to pick one here lol😆) and lots of mutual yearning!⁣
Lottie and Alec were childhood friends who spent their childhood together as Lottie's uncle was Alec's guardian too. But after the night of Lottie's coming out ball, Alec left the country without a word and they haven't seen each other in five years. Now, Alec is an experienced spy and he's been asked by Lottie's uncle to bring her back home, after she ran away to Italy with the hope of creating a scandal so that her uncle would stop forcing her to get married. Lottie is pissed and reluctant at first but when she learns that her uncle is ill, she agrees to go back. And as they spend more time together, old feelings end up resurfacing but will they end up grabbing this chance to be together?⁣
Both Alec and Lottie were amazing protagonists and I liked the fact that they weren't perfect and had their flaws too. They have some issues and preconceived notions to work through but it becomes easier when they do communicate with each other. I loved the glimpses of their past and the connection between them which was quite solid in the present too. The romance was really good and the tension between them was so delicious 🔥 I was waiting for them to get together. The second half has some espionage stuff that takes over the plot(but not completely) with the mandatory third act drama 😂 The ending was quite good but personally I didn't like the fact that Lottie's uncle was forgiven easily. He didn't deserve that 😂 Anyway, I'm quite excited to read the other books in this series now!
