Book Review : Love And Other Scandals by Caroline Linden

Love And Other Scandals by Caroline Linden

Series : Scandalous #1

Genre : Historical Romance

Publisher : Avon

Publication Date : July 30th, 2013

Joan Bennet is tired of being a wallflower. Thanks to some deliciously scandalous—and infamous—stories, she has a pretty good idea of what she's missing as a spinster. Is even a short flirtation too much to ask for?

Tristan, Lord Burke, recognizes Joan at once for what she is: trouble. Not only is she his best friend's sister, she always seems to catch him at a disadvantage. The only way he can win an argument is by kissing her senseless. He'd give anything to get her out of her unflattering gowns. But either one of those could cost him his bachelor status, which would be dreadful—wouldn't it?

This was such a fun read!❣️✨ Reformed rakes definitely make the best husbands and when it's your brother's best friend it's even more fun haha 😆⁣

I love the fact that the FMCs in this author's books aren't always super pretty and gorgeous. Joan Bennet, the protagonist of this one is quite tall and curvy - and the fashion styles of that time don't suit her but her mother makes her wear them and she wants to fit in too. Though she's a spinster, she's not really unhappy about that and I loved how opinionated and witty she was! And Tristan Burke, her brother's best friend is quite the opposite in many ways - and her mother would never approve of him anyway. But, when her mother falls ill and her parents leave for Bath, Joan's brother Douglas asks Tristan to keep an eye on her and they end up spending more time together - or actually butting heads at every turn 😂⁣

I loved the banter between Joan and Tristan and how they made each other speechless sometimes. And I liked the fact that this wasn't and ugly duckling turned swan story as Joan's dressing style is more of a minor sub plot and Tristan is enamored with her - and her sharp tongue 😝 - from the moment their paths cross. The style change just helps her figure out what works for her but it's not like everyone was falling over themselves to call her pretty after that because they find it too plain - even though it suits her very well. That was quite refreshing!⁣

And bonus points for no third act breakup/drama. The romance between Tristan and Joan was funny and entertaining enough so there was no need for anything else! They just accept each other as they are! I loved Joan's aunt - Evangeline and her parents were pretty good too! Overall, this was an enjoyable historical romance and I'm quite excited to read the other books in the series now(and find out more about that 50 Ways to Sin pamphlet🤣)!
