My Kind of Earl by Vivienne Lorret
Series : The Mating Habits of Scoundrels #2
Genre : Historical Romance
Publisher : Avon
Publication Date : September 29th, 2020
USA Today bestselling author Vivienne Lorret continues her charming new trilogy with a bluestocking whose search for information on the mating habits of scoundrels has her stumbling upon the missing heir to an earldom... in the London underworld.

Jane Pickerington never intended to start a brawl in a brothel. She only wanted to research her book. Yet when her simple study of scoundrels goes awry, she finds herself coming to the rescue of a dark, enigmatic stranger… who turns out to be far more than an average rake out for a night of pleasure. He’s positively wild!

Only the most feral and cunning could have survived foundling homes and work houses. Orphaned as an infant, Raven never had another name. At least… not until he meets her. Now he’s face-to-face with the one person who recognizes the strange birthmark on his arm and can reinstate him to his blue-blooded birthright.

All at once, Raven’s life takes a turn. His knowledge of dark alleys and gaming hells never prepared him for gilded ballrooms. So Jane becomes his tutor. Yet, the more lessons in decorum she offers, the more this untamed scoundrel wants to teach her all the ways to be wicked.

Ever since I'd read Lord Holt Takes a Bride(book one in the series), I had been eagerly waiting for Jane's story and I was even more excited when I had learned that it was going to have a Tarzan in London premise. To my utter delight, it definitely didn't disappoint! I absolutely loved Jane and Raven in this one!

We have Jane Pickerington, a quirky bluestocking who finds herself in a brothel as she is very dedicated to researching scoundrels for her book, which she is writing along with her friends. Coincidentally, she ends up meeting Raven, an orphan who doesn't know anything about his origins and lives life his own way. This chance meeting ends up with them being attracted to each other and while he helps her with her 'research', she also ends up helping find out the truth about his origins.

I really loved Jane's character in this one! She's witty, smart and curious but also unbelievably naive when it comes to certain things, and that made for a really cute combination! Raven, on the other hand, is broody and distant at times, but when Jane breaks into his world it's like everything is swept away by a storm. Though the class difference between them hits him in his self-esteem at times, the attraction between them is undeniable and the mystery involving his origins is also intriguing.

Jane's siblings were a great addition and just like how Raven felt the warmth of family with them, I enjoyed reading about their shenanigans too. While Jane's parents are completely absent and irresponsible, she's the one who plays the role of a mother figure for them. Raven's history was quite sad to read about and made me want to give him a hug. I'm glad that she was able to find a family with Jane and eventually recover his true identity too!

My only complaint would probably be how Jane forgave Raven too easily in the last few chapters. We had a little bit of the usual drama where the hero speaks rudely when he gets cold feet. I wanted just a little bit more groveling from him. And the ending was a tad bit too abrupt for my tastes. An extended epilogue would have softened that and I'd definitely have enjoyed it more.

Next up is Ellie's book and I am very excited to find out more about her love interest and their story!
