The world can be a scary place. At least, that's what Andi Lockley's anxiety wants her to believe. It doesn't help that she narrowly escaped a dangerous man years ago, or that every relationship since has been colored with that lingering fear. But things are better now―she's channeling everything into her career as a horror novelist and true crime podcaster, and her next book may be the breakthrough she needs.

If only her grumpy new neighbor would stop stomping around at all hours of the night.

Former firefighter Hill Dawson can't sleep. After losing part of his leg in a rescue gone wrong, he's now stuck in limbo. He needs to figure out what he's supposed to do with his life, and he can't let himself get distracted by the pretty redhead next door. But when someone breaks into Andi's place, Hill can't stop himself from rushing in to play the hero. Soon, a tentative bond forms between the unlikely pair. But what starts out as a neighborly exchange quickly turns into the chance for so much more...if Andi can learn to put aside her fear and trust in herself―and love―again.

I've discovered quite a few new authors this year but I've got to say that Roni Loren is one of my favorites! I'm actually reading The Ones Who Got Away series now(planning on reading all of her books actually), but I wanted to talk about one of my favorite books in 2021 - What If You & Me, because I just remembered that I didn't make a separate post to gush about this.❣️😂 ⁣
I really loved book one - Yes & I Love You and I loved this one even more! So, there you go - I did a cloud #bookshape to go along with that cover because I love that cover as well. Basically, I loved everything about this book. The author always manages to write stories about such beautiful and relatable characters, who go through their own struggles while still being respectful and honest with each other. ⁣
Andi is a true crime podcaster and a horror novelist, who needs to complete her next book while trying to move on from a traumatic past. And Hill is her new neighbor, who is a retired firefighter trying to decide what to do next after he lost his leg. We've got one of my favorite tropes - Grumpy meets Sunshine. While Hill isn't that grumpy(he's actually soft inside😂), I loved their dynamic.⁣
Their first meeting is a memorable one and it subtly brought forth the issues that they were battling with as well. While they are attracted to each other, I really loved how they became friends first and learned to trust each other before going further. My favorite part when it comes to romance books is always the relationship development, so A+ for this one. The slow build up between them was amazing and I'm gonna repeat that I absolutely loved the honesty and open communication that they had with each other. I just wanted to take this book and be like 'Look this is what a healthy relationship looks like'. Men, please learn from Hill. 💁🏻‍♀️⁣

I'm gonna stop gushing here, but seriously do read this and book one if you haven't already. Both have got an amazing mix of romance, steam and mental health rep that's absolutely delightful. Make sure to take a note of the CWs after checking the review if you're giving it a try!❣️✨

Roni wrote her first romance novel at age fifteen when she discovered writing about boys was way easier than actually talking to them. Since then, her flirting skills haven’t improved, but she likes to think her storytelling ability has. She holds a master’s degree in social work and spent years as a mental health counselor, but now she writes full time from her cozy office in Dallas, Texas where she puts her characters on the therapy couch instead. She is a two-time RITA Award winner and a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author.
