Book Review : Resting Witch Face by Juliette Cross

Resting Witch Face by Juliette Cross
Series : Stay A Spell #5
Genre : Paranormal Romance
Publication Date : October 31st, 2022

Twelve years ago, Jules Savoie ended her relationship with the vampire overlord of New Orleans, Ruben Dubois. For good reasons. A woman in power must often make sacrifices to protect others. She knows the truth of it down to her aching heart.

When Ruben watches his best friend Devraj get married, a stinging realization hits him hard…he’s done waiting. They say time heals all wounds. In this case, it merely sharpened the pain and made one fact crystal clear. Jules Savoie is his soulmate, and nothing would keep him from her. Not anymore.

Forced to work side by side to fight for the werewolf cause, they campaign together at covens from New Orleans to London. The reignited spark burns hotter than ever before. But when a power-hungry vampire sets his predatory sights on Jules, will their love be strong enough against black magic? Or will he lose her again? And this time, maybe…for good.

I've been waiting to read Jules and Ruben's story from the moment I met them in the first book(so that makes it more than 2 years 🤣) and this was perfection. Even better than I'd imagined(and that rarely happens when I have expectations lol).
This is the fifth book in the Stay A Spell series and each one follows a different couple, and all of them can be read as standalones, but I'd highly recommend reading the other books in the series so that you would be familiar with the dynamics of the supernatural world, the interactions between the characters and the slow build-up of the relationship between Jules and Ruben that was happening in the background!

So, this is a second chance romance between Jules Savoie, a Siphon witch and Enforcer of New Orleans and Ruben Dubois - the vampire overlord. They'd broken up twelve years back for a bunch of reasons but different events in the supernatural world keep bringing them back together. They've settled into a working relationship of sorts and Ruben has been biding his time. When his friend gets married to Jules' sister, he decides that he's done waiting. He's given Jules all the time she needs, and both of them have changed - for the better - in many ways, and she's all that he needs in his life now! As they go around visiting different covens to give werewolves the opportunity to have a seat in the guilds, they are forced to spend time together which makes them realize that there's no denying the attraction between them - because it never faded.

There was lots of mutual longing, but Ruben's pining for Jules had me giddy and distressed at the same time. He's head over heels for her and you can see it in every move of his. I liked how they had genuine, relatable reasons for their breakup and it honestly worked out for the better! And Jules is my favorite Savoie sister - the one I relate the most to, so it was beautiful to see her opening up and putting herself first as she and Ruben grow closer than before.

"You", I began, swallowing hard at the lump in my throat, "you renamed your club The Green Light...for me?" I could barely get the words out of my mouth.
His expression - aching and adoring and severe - belied the calm tenor of his voice when he said, "I've been bleeding inwardly for over a decade."

When they'd been dating before it wasn't the right time for them, but now that they've spent some time apart - they realize that they've never stopped wanting each other. And they had time to grow while handling the responsibilities that they had. Jules is more confident and settled into her role and Ruben has learned to work hand in hand with her. So, the relationship development was really good!
And, don't get me started on the steam!🔥🥵🥵 The prologue itself had me fanning my face!

Also, there's not much in terms of action or stuff happening except for the last few chapters, as the focus is on the relationship between Jules and Ruben(not that I'm complaining). I've always loved the relationship between the Savoie sisters, their friends and family - and I'm glad we got more of these wholesome interactions.
Overall, this was an amazing and steamy read that was definitely worth the wait and I'm super excited for Clara and Henry's book(but I also don't want this series to end?😩).

Juliette lives in moss-laden Cajun country in Louisiana where she lives with her husband, four kids, and black lab, Kona. She is a multi-published author of paranormal and fantasy romance with confident, persevering heroines and dark, sexy heroes. While she enjoys reading and writing the dark, broody types, she also appreciates the fun, levity of humor in a good love story, so she tries to give her characters both on their way to their HEA.
