ARC Review : Ne'er Duke Well by Alexandra Vasti

Ne'er Duke Well by Alexandra Vasti
Genre : Historical Romance
Publisher : St. Martin's Press Griffin
Publication Date July 23rd, 2024
In this steamy Regency romp, Lady Selina is determined to find the Duke of Stanhope the perfect wife―the only problem is she's starting to think that might be her.

Peter Kent―newly inherited Duke of Stanhope and recently of New Orleans, Louisiana―must become respectable. Between his radical politics and the time he interrupted a minor royal wedding with a flock of sheep―not his fault!―he’s developed a scandalous reputation at odds with his goal of becoming guardian to his half siblings. For help, he turns to the cleverest and most managing woman of his acquaintance, Lady Selina Ravenscroft.

Selina is society’s most proper debutante, save one tiny secret: she runs an erotic circulating library for women. When Peter asks for her help, she suggests courtship and marriage to a lady of unimpeachable reputation. (Which is to say, definitely not herself.)

But matchmaking doesn’t go according to plan. Peter’s siblings run rampant on Bond Street. Selina ends up in the Serpentine. And worst of all, the scorching chemistry between Peter and Selina proves impossible to resist. For the disreputable duke and his unpredictable matchmaker, falling in love just might be the ultimate scandal.

I have loved all of the novellas from this author so I was super excited for this full length book and it definitely did not disappoint! ⁣
Peter Kent(who grew up in Louisiana) has just become the new Duke Of Stanhope and he needs some help to get the guardianship of his two half siblings(as they're illegitimate). His radical opinions along with some accidental incidents have given him a scandalous reputation and this will hinder his case. When he runs into Lady Selina Ravenscroft, he decides to ask her for help and she comes up with an excellent idea - to marry him off to a lady with an excellent reputation 😆 Much to Peter's disappointment she doesn't include herself on the list of his prospects lol😂 But, things don't always go according to plan, do they?⁣
Both Selina and Peter were amazing protagonists! Selina was so intelligent, efficient and strong while Peter was loyal, caring and optimistic! They complemented each other so well and I loved the romance between them(and how Peter was utterly gone for her🤣). Their little family with the two siblings - Lu and Freddie was perfect, and there were so many hilarious moments with them. Selina's family was equally amazing and I loved their friends and how everyone came together for them! I think I loved almost all of the characters in this one!⁣

"You are the heart of us, Selina. There is no family without you."
⁣⁣
My favorite part was definitely the fact that there wasn't any unnecessary drama in this one. Selina is very honest with Peter and in turn, he's very supportive. I loved the fact that they worked together and figured out a solution without any unnecessary angst! Also, I don't think I need to mention how steamy this one was 😆⁣
Mhairi Morrison's narration was excellent and I enjoyed listening to the way she voiced the different characters and their accents - it was so vivid and fun!⁣
This one comes out next week so make sure to grab it if you're looking for a fun historical romance with amazing characters and a cute found family!

Alexandra Vasti comes from a long line of romance-reading Vasti women. She fell in love with historical romance at age 11 and still swoons for Laura Kinsale and Judith McNaught.

Alex lives in Louisiana, where she teaches literature at a university by day and writes romance by night. Somewhere in there she also raises three kids and two mostly feral kitties. She’s powered by guacamole and oat milk lattes, though not usually at the same time.
